A portrait of a naked model has been shortlisted for a leading art prize.
Judges whittled down 2,372 entries to the final four contenders for the £25,000 BP Portrait Award.

Louis Smith, of Manchester, said he was inspired by the Greek myth of Prometheus and his painting was “a message of composure in the face of adversity’’.

Also shortlisted was the work of Ian Cumberland, above centre, Wim Heldens, below, and Sertan Saltan, top.

Winners will be announced on June 14.
